Meet Biggie, an 11-month old West Highland Terrier. Biggie presented to Miami Veterinary Specialists during our emergency hours for inappetence, vomiting and lethargy.

Biggie was seen by Dr. Rebecca Aldoretta and Dr. Candyce Thompson, two of our veterinarians. An abdominal ultrasound and blood work were performed to rule-out the possible causes of Biggie’s symptoms.
Biggie was hospitalized, closely monitored and put under IV fluids to stabilize him. After the abdominal ultrasound results came in, it was found that his gastrointestinal issues were due to the thickening of his gastric wall. In order to definitely identify cause, gastric biopsies are necessary.

After carefully going over the best options for Biggie with his owners, it was agreed that because of his improvement, the biopsy will wait and he was going to be treated supportively. Biggie is currently back home feeling a lot better.
