Meet Cheerio, a 7 year old neutered male Poodle who presented to Miami Veterinary Specialists with an acute onset of abdominal pain and vomiting. After his initial evaluation, Cheerio was hospitalized for labs tests, x-rays and fluid treatment to better control the vomiting. The x-rays revealed a small, linear foreign body in the pylorus.

Dr. Christoper Potanas, one of our veterinary surgeons, evaluated Cheerio. After evaluation, Dr. Potanas spoke with the owner and recommended either surgery or continued medical treatment. X-rays were repeated the next day and showed that the object had barely moved, at which point Dr. Potanas recommended surgery.
Cheerio’s surgery was successful and the foreign object was removed. The abdominal organs were normal. After surgery, Cheerio was treated with fluids, gastroprotectants, prokinetics and pain management. Cheerio has recovered well and was able to return home to his loving family!
