Meet Chichi, a 5-month old mixed breed puppy. He was referred to Miami Veterinary Specialists for a surgery consultation. Chichi was suffering from lethargy, inappetence, anorexia and intermittent vomiting episodes.

Chichi was seen by Dr. Juan Sardinas, one of our Board-Certified Surgeons. Dr. Sardinas performed abdominal radiographs, which revealed a gastrointestinal foreign body obstruction.

Dr. Sardinas performed a successful exploratory laparotomy, a surgical procedure where the abdomen is opened to explore the abdominal organs for signs of injury or disease. Dr. Sardinas found and carefully removed the foreign objects, which were two tampons!

Chichi stayed with us just for a few days to make sure that he didn’t show any signs of pancreatitis after the surgery. He is now ready to go back home with strict orders of cage rest and with prescribed medication. We really hope that Chichi does not develop an acquired taste for tampons and get himself in trouble again! Be good Chichi!
