Meet Ebro, an 8-year old and 2-color eyed Siberian Husky. He presented to Miami Veterinary Specialists for vomiting and diarrhea.
Ebro was seen by Dr. Laura D’Amico and Dr. Candyce Thompson, two of our veterinarians. According to his owner, he might have swallowed a toy a week before his visit. He started to show signs of innapetence, diarrhea and a series of vomiting episodes. He also has a history of previous foreign body ingestion, but has never had to have them surgically removed.
Surgical and non-surgical options were discussed with Ebro’s owner and it was decided that Ebro needed to be under medical observation. His abdominal radiographs were taken to have a closer look of the ingested foreign body and to make sure that there were no other health complications. They also ran a series of blood work tests and put him under fluid therapy and supportive care.
After two days of care, Ebro started to feel better and his abdominal radiographs were taken one last time. Even though the graphs didn’t show clearly what the foreign body was, it showed that it didn’t become a blockage and it was very close to be expelled. This meant there was no need to proceed with surgical removal. He was then sent back home to his owner, who later communicated that Ebro was doing great.
Isn’t he handsome? He probably got his good looks from his father, who actually modeled for a dog magazine.
