Congratulations are in order! Dr. Sarah Evans has officially hit her one year mark here at Miami Veterinary Specialists. Through the last year, Dr. Evans has become well acquainted with the local Miami veterinary community and has become a great asset to our hospital. She is well-received amongst her patients and clients alike, and the relationships she has built with her patients over the last year are treasured and admirable.
Dr. Evans is a board-certified surgeon and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2008. Dr. Evans received her Bachelor of Science (Sc.B.) degree from Brown University then her D.V.M. from Auburn University (‘01). She completed a Rotating Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Tennessee and a Surgical Internship at the Hollywood Animal Hospital in Hollywood, FL. From there she matched for the Residency in Small Animal Surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. After completing her residency, Dr. Evans returned to South Florida to continue to polish her surgical skills.
Dr. Evans performs soft tissue, orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures. She is certified to perform the previously-patented TPLO procedure for cranial cruciate ligament (ACL) deficient stifles in dogs. She also performs laparoscopic and thoracoscopic procedures in addition to traditional laparotomies/thoracotomies. Brachycephalic surgery, extrahepatic portosystemic liver shunt ligations, perineal urethrostomies (PUs), cholecystectomies, and arytenoid lateralizations (“tie-backs”) are a few of her favorite soft tissue procedures; TPLOs, medial patellar luxation (MPLs), toy breed radius/ulna fractures, and hemilaminectomies top the list of her favorite orthopedic and neurological surgeries. Dr. Evans also enjoys performing relatively “routine” surgical procedures such as mast cell tumor removals, especially if there is the extra challenge of being located on the distal limb.
Dr. Evans is always happy to discuss cases with referring veterinarians. Feel free to reach her at 305-665-2820 with orthopedic or soft tissue surgical questions, or if you have not yet had the chance to meet her and would like to say hello!
