Meet Wesley, a 5- month old Shetland Sheepdog. He presented to Miami Veterinary Specialists with a fractured tibia after he fell down the stairs.
Wesley was seen by Dr. Alvaro Larin, one of our Board-Certified Surgeons. After carefully reviewing the available options for Wesley with his owners, it was decided that surgery was the best option to fix his bone fracture.

Dr. Larin performed a successful right tibial tuberosity avulsion repair. This specific type of fracture is very common in puppies. In Wesley’s case, his bone was fractured and a fragment of the bone was separated due to the pull of his kneecap’s tendon.
Wesley is doing great and should be able to go back home today. His splint was decorated festively for the Holiday season!
